Reduce Single-use Packaging

In January 2020, we launched our “Plastic Free by 2023” pledge to eradicate our introduced single-use plastic from our Retail operations. Today we have already made great strides to reduce plastic packaging around our produce, have replaced the plastic with organic equivalents for meat and fish trays, and are on course for ceasing single-use plastic bags in B.I.G. and Village Grocer saving the dispersion of over 20 million single-use plastic bags a year.

Impact Goal 2:
Reduce Food Waste

We continuously run a number of initiatives to reduce food waste from our operations by better marrying our supply to demand. Also central to this goal is our partnership with The Lost Food Project who redistribute our unwanted, but still edible products to underserved and vulnerable communities within our active markets in Klang Valley and Johor Bahru.

Support Underserved and Vulnerable Communities

We have formalised our community reach activity under The Food Purveyor’s “Smiles” program. We encourage our HQ and store employees to participate in bringing both seasonal foods and cheer to local children homes during key festive seasons ensuring benefits are spread across the various cultural and religious communities.
