IMPACT GOAL 1: REDUCE SINGLE-USE PACKAGING

Recognising the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on the local environment, TFP has embarked on a Plastic Free by 2023 pledge in January 2020 to eliminate single-use plastic from its business operation by the end of 2023.
TFP anticipates being the first grocery chain in Malaysia to eliminate the use of single-use plastic, saving the introduction of 27 million single-use plastic packaging and bags a year.
Highlights and achievements:
- Today 49% of our fruits & 45% of our vegetables are now displayed without store-added plastic;
- About 20% of our Fresh suppliers have supported us with innovations in non-plastic packaging;
- Currently, we have installed refill stations in 4 stores and will be expanding to the non-food refillable section in early 2022;
- We are trailing non-plastic compostable and eco-friendly alternatives for meat and fish trays in 3 stores;
- Today we have eliminated single-use plastic packaging in 82% of our bakery-range saving 300,000 pieces of plastic per year;
- Our Cafés are at 81% of eliminating single-use plastic cups and utensils; and
- We have stopped supplying single-use plastic carrier bags to our customers in Village Grocer, B.I.G. and BSC Fine Foods. Already TFP has prevented 27 million single-use bags per year entering society and the environment.
Our highlights and achievements contribute directly and indirectly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) particularly SDG12- Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG14 – Life Below Water.
